About

I hold BCL, LL.M and PhD degrees in law from University College Cork and have been a faculty member in UCD School of Law since August 2008. In UCD I teach property law and the law relating to terrorism and counter-terrorism and supervise doctoral students whose focus is on securitisation and its impact on individual rights. My research focuses on internationalisation of domestic law and, in particular, the extent to which internationalisation through domestic courts can effectively restrain repressive state action in times of terrorism-related crises.

From late 2009 I am a Fellow of the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law (HiiL) working on the human rights stream of the Private Transnational Regulatory Regimes project: http://privateregulation.eu/

I am also the founder and a contributing editor to Human Rights in Ireland: http://humanrightsinireland.wordpress.com

I am the Assistant Director of Doctoral Studies for the UCD School of Law and am interested in hearing from prospective PhD students in the areas of human rights, counter-terrorism, and securitisation generally.
