About

Jan Klimas is a researcher at School of Medicine, University College Dublin and Graduate Entry Medical School, University of Limerick in Ireland.
He has recently received a Fellowship funding to conduct a Cochrane systematic review entitled ‘Psychosocial Interventions for Problem Alcohol Use in Drug Users’.
Besides the work on the Irish research projects, Jan is also completing his PhD studies in Social psychology at Trnava University in Slovakia. The PhD project focuses on the quality of social interaction and personality factors of drug use. Jan received his MSc degree in psychology from the same institution in 2005 with a qualitative thesis about factors conducive to changes in drug users undergoing residential treatment in a therapeutic community.
Since his undergraduate programme, Jan has been actively involved in a needle exchange project, first as an Outreach worker and a Project assistant later on. He utilised the knowledge and expertise gained from this project in a community unemployment service (Hungary), in community drugs initiative for young drug users (Ireland) and in a 12-week stabilisation day programme designed for people contemplating a reduction in their use of drugs (Dublin).
Jan’s professional and research interests lay broadly in the areas of addiction treatment, harm reduction and qualitative approaches.
